Originally from Singapore, Avalene (Ava for short) graduated from the University of Melbourne, Australia in 2012. She undertook a rotating and medicine internship at the Small Animal Specialist Hospital in Sydney before commencing her ECC internship and residency training at UC Davis. She completed her residency in 2021 and is an American ECC Diplomate. Ava stayed on at UC Davis for a 1-year research fellowship in the Li Platelet and Neutrophil Physiology lab where she studied canine NETs in IMHA. Ava then moved back across the ocean to work at Massey University, New Zealand, as a Senior Lecturer in ECC and has now crossed back over the pond to Australia. She currently works at the Small Animal Specialist Hospital in Sydney, Australia. She also runs a ECC literature website with other fellow DACVECCs- VetUpdates.org. Her interests include teaching, coagulation, platelet-neutrophil interactions, electrolytes, fluid therapy and transfusion medicine.
