Dr. Boyd is a critical care intensive care physician and Senior Lecturer in Emergency and Critical Care at Murdoch University. After completing his residency at the university, he became ACVECC certified in 2017.
His primary research focus is shock and fluid therapy, with a particular focus on the effects of fluid therapy on the coagulation system and renal function during his doctoral studies.
His other areas of interest include congenital and acquired coagulation disorders, renal injury biomarkers, extracorporeal circulation, anaphylaxis, enteric pathogens, patient anxiety and sleep patterns in the ICU, the use of technology in ECC, and ethical issues in ECC.
His clinical focus is on the early recognition and treatment decision-making process for shock.
