POCUS hands-on training

In this hands-on training, participants will use live animals to acquire practical Point-of-Care Ultrasound (POCUS) skills that can be immediately applied in emergency settings. This is a rare opportunity to learn directly from internationally renowned experts, including contributors to global POCUS guidelines.

The instruction will be conducted in English, but Japanese interpretation will be available to ensure all participants can fully benefit from the training.

Over the course of six hours, participants will receive focused training on the following essential skills.

[Major skills you can learn]

  • Proper handling and operation of the ultrasound probe

  • Assessment of pleural and abdominal effusion and organ evaluation (FAST scan)

  • Basic cardiac assessment (including the VET BLUE protocol and identification of B-lines)

  • Guidance for vascular access and evaluation of superficial organs

  • Case-based scanning approach and clinical decision-making process

[Why is this training special?]

In this course, participants will receive in-person instruction from some of the world’s leading experts in the field of POCUS.
Dr. Søren Boysen is a globally recognized authority who played a key role in developing the international veterinary POCUS guidelines.

  • Dr. Pamela Manning (Australia)

  • Dr. Yu Ueda (USA)

Dr. Boysen and Dr. Kris Gommeren are founding members of VECCUS, the POCUS subcommittee of the European Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care Society (EVECCS), and are central figures in global POCUS education.
In addition, Drs. Boysen, Gommeren, and Ueda are core members of the International POCUS Consensus Group.
Dr. Manning has played a leading role in advancing POCUS education and instructor training in Australia and brings a wealth of teaching experience to this program.

[Will I be taking online courses?]

Yes, this hands-on training is available only to those who have completed the POCUS online course and passed the associated test.
Therefore, please make sure to complete the online course before participating in the practical training.
