1) About POCUS (Point-of-Care Ultrasound)
POCUS (Point-of-Care Ultrasound) is a form of ultrasound examination that can be performed directly during triage or clinical assessment, enabling rapid diagnosis, decision-making, and treatment, especially in emergency and critical cases.
In recent years, the value of POCUS has been increasingly recognized worldwide in veterinary medicine, and its application is expanding across various fields including emergency and critical care, internal medicine, and surgery.
POCUS is characterized by its ability to:
-
Provide minimally invasive, real-time, repeatable assessments that allow clinicians to track changes in the patient’s condition
-
Accelerate clinical decision-making at the point of care, particularly when managing emergency or critically ill patients
These features make POCUS an essential tool for delivering safer and higher-quality veterinary care.
2) Who is this program suitable for?
This program is designed for all veterinarians who wish to actively apply POCUS in their clinical practice.
It is especially recommended for:
-
Veterinarians involved in emergency and critical care
-
Veterinarians performing screening and initial assessments in primary care settings
-
Those seeking to receive POCUS training aligned with the latest international standards
Regardless of years of experience or practice size, this program is open to any veterinarian aiming to acquire practical POCUS skills that can be directly applied in the clinical setting.

4) Special lecturers
The online course is presented by Dr. Søren Boysen (DACVECC) and Dr. Serge Chalhoub (DACVIM) of the University of Calgary in Canada. Both doctors are widely recognized as leading educators in veterinary point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS), having delivered numerous lectures and hands-on workshops not only in Canada and the U.S., but also throughout Europe and Australia. Their extensive experience has been distilled into a comprehensive 7-hour online lecture series, which will be made available with Japanese subtitles.
For the hands-on POCUS training, we are pleased to welcome Dr. Søren Boysen (Canada), Dr. Pam Manning (Australia), and Dr. Yu Ueda (USA), who will provide in-person instruction.
Dr. Søren Boysen is a founding member of VECCUS, the POCUS subcommittee of the European Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care Society, and is regarded as a global leader in POCUS education. Both Dr. Boysen and Dr. Yu Ueda are also key members of the international veterinary POCUS consensus group.
Dr. Pamela Manning has collaborated extensively with Dr. Boysen in Australia to advance POCUS education and instructor development, and brings a wealth of teaching experience to this program.
This is a rare opportunity to learn directly from the individuals who helped shape the international guidelines in POCUS.
