Noriko Niijima
Yamazaki University of Animal Nursing, Faculty of Animal Nursing
Completed her doctoral studies at the University of Tokyo Graduate School of Humanities and Sociology. She has served as a researcher at the University of Tokyo and a lecturer at Yokohama National University, Azabu University, and other institutions. She is a professional social researcher and a council member of the Society for Human-Animal Relations. Her specialty is the sociology and thanatology of pets. She has been the only person in Japan to be responsible for the "pet loss theory" for many years. She has co-edited and written "The Thanatology of Humans and Animals," and co-authored "The University of Tokyo Hachiko Story," "Considering Animal Life," "Development of the Sociology of Emotions," "Animals Encyclopedia," "Companion Animals in Everyday Life," and others.
